About Paul Shaffer

Known best as the musical director and house band leader on David Letterman's late night talk shows, Shaffer headed The World's Most Dangerous Band from 1982 on NBC, and stayed steadfast with the legendary Letterman in 1993 to lead the group in its second iteration, named the CBS Orchestra, until 2015.

A legend in his own right, Shaffer has worked with the best and the brightest in the business. He served as musical director for John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd’s Blues Brothers performances, collaborated with Gilda Radner on her Broadway show, played keyboard for Robert Plant’s Honeydrippers, and recorded with artists including B.B. King, Cyndi Lauper, Yoko Ono, Jeff Healey, Cher, Grand Funk Railroad, Chicago, Diana Ross and Brian Wilson.

Highly respected in the entertainment industry, Shaffer has directed and produced the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony since its inception in 1986, and collaborated on musical benefits for humanitarian causes with big names such as Faith Hill and Paul McCartney. He composed original songs for the movie Strangers with Candy, and produced the gold-selling soundtrack for Blues Brothers 2000, in which he also appeared – adding to his cameos in cult classics like This Is Spinal Tap, Scrooged and Look Who's Talking Too. Paul Shaffer recently performed in Netflix’s A Very Murray Christmas, for which he also directed all the music.

Author of a best-selling memoir entitled We’ll Be Here For The Rest of Our Lives: A Swingin' Showbiz Saga, Paul Shaffer has been showered with accolades for his extraordinary career and influence, which is far from over. Canadians can call him our own: one of his two honourary doctorate degrees comes from Lakehead University, and his hometown-hero status is cemented in honours including the Order of Canada in 2008, a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame, and even a street surrounding the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium, renamed Paul Shaffer Drive.

For Paul Shaffer, it all comes down to his love of music. He has released two solo albums, the Grammy-nominated Coast to Coast, and The World's Most Dangerous Party. His upcoming performance will introduce the new album Paul Shaffer & The World’s Most Dangerous Band, and there’s no doubt about it – this concert will be full of fun from start to finish.
